Goals, Ownership, Steve Jobs, Work

Today’s Quote:

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.” – Steve Jobs

I addressed this earlier using a previous quote. Basically, the idea here is to pursue “your” goals, “your” likes, “your” loves–Not someone else’s. Why do something you are not 100% committed to?

I don’t care what your goals are. If you are really motivated to accomplish this goal because you want it, you are much more likely to complete it–You’ll be 100% engaged. It’s just like work. If you are truly doing something you love, working long hours, going the extra mile, learning the intricacies of your position will be nothing to you. Going to work for you will not be like it is for most. You’ll look forward to the work. You will be excited to engage the day.

Take some time to really analyze what you are pursuing. Is this your goal or someone else’s? Examine your current employment. Is this something you truly enjoy or is it absolute drudgery to go to work every day?

I’m not advocating quitting your job, but I am advocating to really evaluate what you are doing. Most of us are putting 70% of our time at our jobs. Why not make it a job you really love?

Until next time…

H. Jackson Brown, Joseph Campbell, Steve Jobs

“The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” – H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Yeah, this is a good one. We establish our future by doing things that build that future consistently. Exercise builds the body, learning builds the mind, meditation or prayer builds us spiritually, and spending time and investing in our relationships builds our social networks. Do something each week to build one of these four dimensions of life and your future will truly be bright.

“We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” – Joseph Campbell

I think this is an important aspect of daily living. If we become too invested in how we think things should be going, we lose out on the opportunity to enjoy the spontaneity of the moment. Flexibility is the key because plans never survive reality.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” – Steve Jobs

A great quote to round out today’s daily quotes. This is really a great bit of career advice. How many of us shortchange ourselves by taking the first job available? How many of us settle for something that is secure but unfulfilling? Take a look at your current profession. If you are not anxious to get to work every day and crush it, you may want to consider a job change.

See you tomorrow!!

Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Henry Ford, Innovations, Steve Jobs

“If I had asked people what they wanted they would have said faster horses.” – Henry Ford

If you look at every successful entrepreneur, they were successful because they could explain to people the reason they “needed” their product. A couple of recent examples of this are Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and the late Steve Jobs. All three of these individuals did the same thing Henry Ford did–sell a product or service that did not previously exist, but do it in such a way that after their innovation was adopted, the market could not live without it. Ever try to give up your cell phone or computer? hmm? 🙂

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” – Henry Ford

Our mind can only focus on one thing at a time. Focus on the good things like your goals, your dreams, your bucket list. If you stay focused on the good things, your mind can’t focus on the bad things.

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” – Henry Ford

Whenever an innovator attempts to achieve something new, they make mistakes, people tell them they cannot achieve what they are trying to achieve, and even their own minds may be the culprit in the attempt to undermine their efforts. The Airplane takes off against the wind, the rocket defies gravity, the trout fights the current. All three of these examples demonstrate the need to accept the resistance we will experience while pursuing a worthwhile goal or objective. If there is no resistance, I would argue that the goal or objective you are seeking isn’t stretching you enough.

I hope your Thursday is going well; I’ll see you tomorrow.
