Daily Ramblings – Motivation Monday – When you’re sick…

26 Monday Jul 2021

ear ache, Fever, head ache, self-care, Sick, Sleep, Sore Throat, under the weather, vitamins

I’ve been feeling a little out of it the last few days. I’ve had headaches, ear aches, sore throat, you name it. What do we do to stay motivated when we’re not feeling 100%? We motivate ourselves to do what we have to do, and then we dump the rest, so we can rest.

Sometimes, the only cure for sickness is sleep, vitamins, water, chicken soup, and sleep. Sleep is by far the best way to overcome sickness, because your body needs the sleep to mend itself and fight off whatever it has. Your body will also tell you when it’s losing and it’s time to see the doctor.

So, take care of yourself when you’re feeling worn out like I do. I’m drinking water, had my vitamins and breakfast, and yes, I am going to take a nap. It’s all you can do sometimes. Enjoy the nap. Embrace the nap. Another tidbit of home remedies is showers and baths. I love showers when I’m not feeling well. The body gets rid of a lot of waste and toxins through the skin, particularly when you’re not feeling well. Take that shower to get rid of all that. If needed, go right back to bed after you’re done.

I hope this helps you when you are sick. There was a saying we had in the Army, that was wise and funny. It goes likes this: “There’s a very little difference between hardcore and stupid.”–Unknown. What it means is that being tough and hard-charging is terrific, provided it is not idiotic. There are some who really took hardcore to heart and really overdid it. Being sick and trying to gut your way through it, is not only stupid, it is dangerous to yourself and your unit.

Take care of yourself. You’ll heal up quicker and get back to the things you need to get done.

Until next time…

Wow, the hits just keep on coming in 2020, right?

This week, we will again focus on achieving some calm. Your challenge this week is to take a long hot bath and soak for an hour, or go to a sauna/steam bath and do any session length you can tolerate. I usually last 10-15 minutes before I’m so hot, I have to get out. Both self-care treatments will lower your stress like you’ve never been before. If you take a bath, don’t forget some relaxing music, a glass of wine, tea, or your favorite beverage.

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Spread Your Wings Sunday – Day Off

Chill out, Day Off, Do Nothing Day, Relax, self-care, Spread Your Wings, Sunday

Challenge: Take a day off. I mean it. You work hard. You are stressed out. Take a day off to do whatever you want to. Ignore your to-do list, ignore what you feel you have to do, and just do nothing. I do this every Sunday and it is so refreshing.

In the comments, tell me what you did. Did you go on an adventure? Did you relax with a good book and a beverage? Did you get a massage? What did you do on your “do nothing day”?

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Spiritual Saturday – Love Yourself

Don’t forget to love yourself.

Soren Kierkegaard

So many of us beat the living crap out of ourselves. I know I used to. I still do today, but less frequently. I typically get down on myself when I feel like I’m just “going through the motions” and not really putting my entire self into a project.

This happened recently.

I love an automated or ritualized day. I have the same recurring tasks each day and knock them down one by one. Blogging is one of them. I also read, code, learn, journal, interact on social media, exercise, and perform my daily spiritual tasks. It really works for me, but alas, these rituals drift from purposeful self-improvement to automaton-like actions very easily.

As I tackled this feeling, I realized that I should probably take my advice. There will be days where we just don’t feel the motivation and drive we normally do. We’re human. Can I say each workout I do in the gym is 100%? Heck no. This same phenomenon applies to everything else we do. So, I realized that I need to give myself a break.

This is self-love. This is taking care of yourself. This is giving yourself a break. Who wants to live with a micromanager and tyrant? I sure don’t. So, I closed my eyes a few days ago and pretended I was staring at my 7-year-old self. I told myself that you are OK. You will screw up. You’re still an honorable person. You will be lazy some days. On those days, continue to work, but take it a little easy. The days where you’re raring to get at it will be there too. Enjoy those days as well. The days you don’t feel it, enjoy them too and give yourself a break. Just keep doing your daily tasks and you’ll be fine.

That was all it took for me. What things do you do for yourself to recapture the passion you have for your daily tasks/goals? If you have some other ideas, post them in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Workout Routine – Chiropractor Day!

Healing, monthly appointmet, no-force chiropractors, pressure points, Relaxing, self-care, wonderful

Image by mohamed Hassan from Pixabay

I am very interested in self-care. I used to think chiropractors were kooks and scams. No more. I have been going to my chiropractor since November of last year, when I hurt my back dead lifting in the gym. I have been going ever since.

One thing I’d like to stress is the use of a no-force chiropractor. A no-force chiropractor does not put you in pretzel-like positions and crack your back. They use pressure points and a massage device that works both sides of the spine and key pressure point areas that may cause discomfort.

On my “adjustment” days, I do not go into the gym or do cardio. Hence, the reason you won’t see a workout today.

Have a great Thursday, readers!

See you at the finish line…

Dave
