Weather can be a real demotivator. Do you know anyone that is impacted adversely by the weather. My Mother get’s migraines when it get’s stormy. My sister’s mood is impacted by the “dark” months during Michigan’s Winters, because of the heavy cloud cover we have most of the time. Weather can be a real drag if you are impacted this way.

How do you overcome it? Mom just deals with it. My sister has a sun lamp she uses to help her get more sun. It is interesting to learn how everyone learns to accept and deal with their ailments.

For me, weather was a demotivator in the military. Why? Because I lived in it. I had no ability to escape the elements, other than wear the issued gear we were provided with. But, that did not stop the freezing rain, snow storms, or the mud we dealt with. I turned my dislike of bad weather around psychologically, by digging in even more when the elements were against us. It also prompted me to buy a portable butane stove, sold by a military store. What a godsend. Hot coffee will always take away the chill.

Many authors I have read suggest we take our good weather with us. Despite the rain, the snow, or whatever else, we take our good mood with us. So make the best of your circumstances and dig in. The bad weather will pass and you’ll have accomplished a great deal in the meantime.

Have a great Monday, folks!

Until next time…

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Arthur Ashe

I used to use so many excuses. Why I couldn’t do this or that. Have you ever felt that? If so, use this quote for motivation.

Start where you are. We are all some place. Think about what you want to do this week. Think about how you will accomplish these things. Plan then out, get them on your calendar and execute. Just assume you’ll get them done. If something appears to be too complicated, plan it out, break it down. Maybe you only do one step this week. Next week, you’ll tackle the next step(s).

If you’re a creative and stuck, don’t worry. There are no rules surrounding creativity. Some days you’ll be on fire, other days, you’ll be thinking how to move forward. Just keep thinking and working as best you can. You’ll get there.

This week, I’ll be doing my homework, exercising, doing my spiritual exercises, doing some chores around the house, reading, writing, learning. I’ll do some socializing, now that Michigan is predominantly opened back up. The libraries and coffee shops are open again–Thank God!

Sometimes, when I feel like I’m in a rut, I’ll head out to the library or one of my local coffee shops and work there. This year was tough getting out, but now that things are opening again, I’ll be back at it on a weekly basis.

Mondays for some folks are absolute torture. This used to be the way I felt too, especially when I was still working. How did I turn that around? I began doing the same things every day of the week, other than my “Do Nothing Day.” When I did this, Monday was just another day.

Well, that’s all I got for this week, folks. I hope all of you have a terrific week! Get out there and get at it. You’re the only one that can.

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Wisdom Wednesday – Never Quit.

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

Confucius

Confucius is one of my favorite sources for quotes. He truly is an inspiration. When I think about history, I am amazed at the wisdom our forefathers and foremothers learned ahead of us. It would be wise of all of us to learn from those that opened the doors we have access to today.

The accurate measure of us is not how well we do when things are going exactly the way we want them to; it is how well we do things when things are not going so well.

Each time you fail, you learn. Each time you learn from these failures, you learn what does not work to push toward your goals. So take heart. Failure is learning, as long as you don’t fail the same way repeatedly. Then you show you are failing and learning nothing from these failures.

When trying something new, remind yourself that there is always a way. There is another door you can go through, another way to write that paragraph, another way to build that tool. There are websites, tutorials, people, and books you can read for inspiration. Perhaps you failed because you were missing one of the puzzle pieces required to finish your task. Find that missing puzzle piece and try again.

If you keep putting effort to the task at hand, you will finish it. You just have to keep trying. Quitting can become a horrible habit and crutch. When you quit, you stop learning. You stop progressing. You accept that you are not good enough, not smart enough, or not talented enough. When this happens, you are lost.

Be stubborn. Be resilient. Be persistent.

Keep going. You have nothing to lose by trying. You have everything to lose if you quit. When you quit, you have truly lost. So don’t quit.

Until next time…

Dave

Daily Ramblings – Spiritual Saturday – What is the Lesson?

18 Saturday Apr 2020

Attachment, backup, creativity, Problems, redundancy, Resilience, Spiritual, spirituality

I missed yesterday’s posting because of a laptop that decided to die on me. I thought we lost power in the house, but actually it was my laptop battery. HP laptops need a working battery, despite being plugged in, before the operating system will kick in (My brother is a professional techie, and helped me figure it out).

Not a big deal since I have a desktop, but my desktop has been unused for about 6 months, and now I’m dealing with all of the updates that I didn’t do. Oh, well.

What does this have to do with spirituality? It is a lesson in undue attachment. I thought I was living a pretty detached life, but then this laptop thing happened and I went into a bit of a tizzy. The lesson was clear. I am not as detached as I thought I was.

Well, I’ve got a battery on order and things are back to normal, but wait….I don’t have a webcam anymore. Oh no!!!! Not a problem I’ll go to Amazon and place an order. Webcams are out of stock on Amazon, Best Buy, Staples, and Walmart. Logitech, a manufacturer of webcams is out too. I thought for a moment. It’s the remote work that has increased one thousand fold since the lockdown.

To overcome this, I’m using a Bluetooth keyboard and my iPhone app to make today’s posting. My PC is updating and is only at 24% so it was time to get creative. It was also a keen lesson on the importance of backup systems and redundancy. Lesson learned on a few different fronts.

I missed yesterday’s posting due to this debacle, but now I’m back on track.

The moral of the story. You always have room to improve and you are never safe from unexpected issues that pop up. It’s how you handle these problems and continue to strive forward that matters.

Well, folks. That’s all I got for today as I stare at a blue screen with 24% on it. I hope each of you has a terrific Saturday!

Until next time…

Dave

Daily Ramblings – Daily Quote

Dedication, Persistence, Practice, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Resilience

Today’s Quote:

“Every artist was first an amateur.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

This quote speaks to the hard work, dedication, persistence, and resilience it takes to be good at something, whether it’s poetry, writing, drawing, or even playing an instrument. It takes a lot of practice to get good at anything.

When you first start something be easy on yourself. Not everyone will be a Mark Twain, Ralph Waldo Emerson, or Stephen King. But you do you have your own unique voice and there will be people who are interested in hearing what you have to say. Start there!

Until next time…

Dave
