Adapting, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Improvising, Planning, Plans, Quote, Visualizing

Today’s Quote

“Plans are nothing, planning is everything.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower

As a retired veteran, I can tell you this is absolutely true. I think the reason Eisenhower said this is that in the military, like many other organizations, plans rarely survive reality. They are a template for our actions and future moves but are just that—a template.

When we begin pushing through that plan, people will change, the weather will change, circumstances will change, and opportunities will arrive. None of these things can be foreseen; they just happen. The key to completing any plan is to adapt to changes, modify the plan as needed, and continue moving forward until the mission, project, or goal is completed. We have to plan to really iron out our thoughts and vision, but the execution always requires the ability to improvise when things don’t occur the way we planned them to.

Until next time…

Benjamin Disraeli, Facades, Quote, Truth

Today’s Quote

“Never apologize for showing feeling. When you do so, you apologize for the truth.” – Benjamin Disraeli

So many people shelter their true feelings, hiding behind a facade they use when in public. Why not be genuine? It is so much easier.

Acting differently than who you really are is the same as lying. Everyone figures out who you really are in time anyway. Be yourself. Those people that are truly your friends will accept you for who you are, the rest don’t care and aren’t worth the trouble.

Until next time…

Abraham Lincoln, Discipline, Patience, Quote

Today’s Quote:

” Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most.” – Abraham Lincoln

So true folks. Whether you are trying to lose weight, learn a new language, earn a promotion, or whatever, the process does take hard work and sacrifice. So many folks are fooled by “get-rich quick” schemes or “lose weight now” scams.

These are hard things to do because they take a certain amount of discipline to do them. These things also take time.

One of the bodybuilders I worked out with in the Army (name withheld for his privacy) said, “Bodybuilding is a way of life. It is not a race, but a marathon–one that will last your entire life.” This is what I’m talking about. You can’t achieve meaningful change over night. It takes time.

Until next time…

  • To plan the details of our day.
  • To embrace a story.

Anger, Drinking, Drugs, Fear, habits, Opportunities, Quote, Smoking, Sophia Amoruso, Success

Today’s Quote:

“Abandon anything about your life and habits that might be holding you back. Learn to create your own opportunities.” – Sophia Amoruso

Makes sense doesn’t it?

Why would you continue to do anything that is harmful or hurting your chances of moving forward with your goals?

Well, let’s talk addictions for a moment. If you are exercising and using drugs, tobacco, or drinking, you’re actually working against yourself. These would be a few things I would abandon now, rather than later, if I was serious about a healthy, long-lasting existence.

What’s another major inhibitor for moving forward? Fear. A close friend of fear is anger. If you are angry and afraid you will be mad that you aren’t moving forward and fearful of doing so. Crazy right? But this is another huge trap for people. Fear will paralyze you, anger will alienate you.

So what does this quote teach us? It teaches us to let go of anger and fear. It teaches us to let go of toxic relationships. It teaches us to let go of bad habits like smoking, drinking, and drugs. It teaches us to let go of thoughts and feelings that tell us that we’re not good enough, not strong enough, or not pretty or handsome enough.

I hope all of you can achieve what you are striving for.

Until next time…

Alice Morse Earle, Being Present, Living in the Moment, Quote, wisdom

Today’s Quote:

“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why it is called the present.” – Alice Morse Earle

What wisdom right?

So many of us get wrapped up into what happened yesterday or worry about some unknown in the future, ignoring the fact that none of that has any impact unless we let it impact us. The only way to benefit from yesterday and have an effect on tomorrow is by being present. Do your best today. Focus on what you want today. Stay on task right now! If you do, you’ll find your tomorrow’s are better, your yesterday’s are great teachers, and the only control you have is your attitude about what is occurring right now.

Here’s a trite quote: “Stop and smell the roses.” Take your time, enjoy every bite of your meal, enjoy every moment with your loved one, enjoy every moment of peace when you just sit and relax.

I hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

See you tomorrow…

Quote, Showing up, Success, Woody Allen

Today’s Quote:

“Eighty percent of success is showing up.” – Woody Allen

So true. How many people dream of wanting to do something with their lives but never, ever take a chance? How many people shoot themselves down before they even try?

In light of the volume of quotes that highlight this phenomenon, I’d wager there are a lot of folks out there who want but won’t go and get it.

If you really want something but experience fear, apprehension, or any emotion that paralyzes you from taking action, simply focus on just taking that first step. Just one step can make all the difference. Take more than one step and you’ll start to build momentum. Once momentum begins, it is really hard to stop.

So. If you want to be successful, SHOW UP!!!

Have a great Thursday!! See you later today.

Amelia Earhart, Goal Setting, Planning, Quote, Visualization

Today’s Quote

“The most effective way to do it, is to do it.” – Amelia Earhart

So many people have dreams. They dream about a great body, a robust bank account, a nice home, and a perfect mate. They dream about being a success.

Why do so many people fail?

The key to pursuing your goals and dreams is simply to just go do it. Sometimes we have to rethink our goals and dreams. When you review what you want, sometimes we discover that some of our goals and dreams really aren’t our goals and dreams, but the goals and dreams of others.

When you really know what you want, start with baby steps. Do something/anything to get moving towards your goals. Once you start establishing these actions as habits, the dream will be achieved–it is merely a matter of time. Be patient and keep chipping away. You’ll get there.

Simple process for achieving what you want:

  1. Visualize what you want, feeling how it will be to have what you are aspiring to.
  2. Put together a plan.
  3. Start small and monitor your progress.

I hope each of you is having a terrific Tuesday!

See you tomorrow…

Erma Bombeck, Quote

Today’s Quote

“Never go to a doctor whose office plants have died.” – Erma Bombeck

This is a great quote by Author Erma Bombeck. Have you ever gone into a doctor’s or dentist’s office and notice things are a little disheveled? I use this technique before I go into any business.

My Mom and Dad have been talking about going to a new Mongolian Barbeque that is in town, but when I went there to check it out, there were only a few cars in the parking lot, and the grand opening sign was folded over on itself. You would think a restaurant needing to spur its business would do everything it could to advertise, but here it was, their big grand opening banner, hanging sloppily, with part of it folding over on itself. No wonder no one is going in.

Anyways, I told my folks that if a business couldn’t even take the time to keep the outside of their building clean and organized, imagine what they are doing or not doing to the food. I think I’ll pass.

I hope each of you had a terrific 4th of July (those that celebrate it), and have a great weekend coming up. My brother and niece are flying into town tomorrow to hang out for 10 days and I am really excited. I’ll be picking them up from the airport tomorrow night.

See you tomorrow…

Blessings, Grateful, Gratitude, Quote

“If we want to keep the blessings of life coming to us, we must learn to be grateful for whatever is given.” – Harold Klemp – The Language of Soul

Well, I can’t say enough about gratitude. Gratitude is more than being grateful, it is about the realization of every miracle that occurs in our daily lives. It is accepting what is and being happy with what we have–where we are–what we are doing. It is about who we have in our lives and how they contribute to our experience.

If you cannot be thankful for what you have you will never be. It is that simple. Happiness is not about what you have, who you have, where you live, or what you can do. It is merely a state of consciousness.

Look for the small things in your life that bring joy. Love others for who they are, without condition. Savor the time you have with others, the food you eat or merely waking up in the morning.

If none of these things work, here’s a simple exercise. Take anything or anyone you love the most. Take a few moments imagining they were taken away. Feel’s pretty bad doesn’t it? Now bring them back. How do you feel now? Grateful? Happy?

I hope so…

Happy 4th of July to my American Readers!!

See you tomorrow…
