Well, folks, my brother and nephew headed back to Phoenix. It’ll be weird for a couple of days getting used to “just us” again. Isn’t that the way it goes, though? You have visitors, laugh, watch shows, eat out, all the rest, and then, just like that, they are gone again. It was a great labor day weekend with my brother and nephew.
I normally post a funny video here for your enjoyment, but wanted to just wish everyone a great weekend this week. I had a great time during the long weekend, and I hope you did too. I know for some you this will be a working weekend. Whatever you are doing, enjoy it.
Spend some time with your family, friends, or pets. Get out and do something, whether it’s your favorite coffee shop, the beach (If you live in the tropics), or get out for a nice meal that someone else cooks. Whatever you do, have a great time. Weekends were made to get caught up with those home projects, taking naps, taking walks, whatever.
Well, that’s it for today. I wish all of you a terrific weekend. It’s FriYAY!!
For those of my readers who live in the United States, Happy 4th! I hope you have a great time with friends and family. My wife went windsurfing in Arizona, my sister is out with her friend on her boat, and the folks and I are enjoying the air conditioning. Today, is another do nothing day for me, other than my blogging, and some other critical items.
Why should we take a vacation? Why should we take a day off? Because, regardless of how in shape we are, focused we are, or disciplined we are, we need time off. We need to do something we enjoy. We need to rest. We need some time when we are engaged with what we enjoy doing, without guilt. We also need something to compare our work days with.
The mind can only identify with opposites. Sleep and awake, dark and light, loud and quiet. The same thing occurs when we consider work and play. Without work or a purpose in your life, your leisure time would not be as special. The same goes for leisure time. If you don’t relax and take your mind off of the pressures at work, you won’t be as productive. Work and leisure go hand-in-hand. They need one another.
This is the first two days in a row I’ve relaxed and tossed my schedule in the basket this year. I need to do this more often. When I take a few days off now and then, I’m raring to get back to my book writing, my non-profit position, and all the other things I focus on during my “work” days.
This leads me right back to hobbies. You need one or more of them. Hobbies give you something to look forward to. A good social network is also necessary, so you can share your time with friends. It’s really nice to meet a friend for lunch on the weekend or sit down and chat over a cup of coffee. Then there’s the night life. I’m not a drinker, but for those of you who do, go out to the clubs, dance, meet new people, enjoy yourself.
If you work hard, the leisure time feels terrific. If you do your leisure right, you’ll be anxious to get back to work after a holiday or a few days off.
Well, that’s it for today, folks. I almost blew this off, but got the nudge to put this up so you could see the importance of time off and how it can actually give you the motivation to go back to work when your weekend, holiday, or vacation is over with.
I found these clips on YouTube and man, I couldn’t stop laughing. I hope all of you get a good laugh.
It’s Friday. It’s time to hang up the corporate suit, relax, get some stuff done around the house, and enjoy life. I hope all of you have some great things planned for the weekend.
Well, another week on Daily Ramblings is in the bag. I’ll see you guys again on Monday.
Well, my sister and I are in season 3 of Better Call Saul. What a great series. I think it is so good because we watched Breaking Bad first. No spoilers, but the back stories on some of the characters in Better Call Saul is awesome!
CODM is still a blast. I got to Grandmaster in Ranked play and hope to get to legendary this year. All kinds of challenges this season and some unique events that have been an absolute blast to play. I’m still grinding weapon camos for the most part. It’s tedious at times, but there is such a large variety of weapons, it’s fun to really learn a weapon as I work through diamond camo.
I’m reading another book in the Star Carrier series. It’s a page turner. I like this guy’s style of writing, and the plot is awesome.
Well, that’s all for today, folks. I hope you have a great one!
We started watching Better Call Saul this week. It is interesting because you get to revisit characters that fall along Saul’s character arc. It has a Breaking Bad feel, but is definitely a unique experience. We’ve only watched the first episode. We got distracted and caught some movies on Disney +. We watched Zhong – Zi (I don’t know if I spelled this right), a martial arts character in the Marvel Universe. We also watched Captain Marvel. That movie never disappoints. We’ll pick up Better Call Saul again, after my sister gets through all of her 50th birthday festivities.
Bay City Blast is the next book in the Remo Williams series. It is another terrific story. Again, no spoilers. You’ll have to spend the 2.99 to get the Kindle version.
Call of Duty started a new season with a desert feel. There will be a mission sometime in the next day or so with an Egyptian Tomb. I can’t wait. There have been a few challenges, and I am currently focusing on the Sniper Rifles. Speaking of weapons, this season introduced a new sniper rifle and a new melee weapon – Kali Sticks! I’ve got them to diamond camo so I am now back to the shovel and built a class with the baseball bat melee weapon.
Well, that’s it for this week, folks. I hope you have a great Thursday!
Well, folks, my sister and I finished The Sopranos yesterday. Wow, what a great show. We started re-watching Season 4 of Ozark to get ready for the second part, which starts tomorrow on Netflix. We can’t wait!!
I’m reading yet another Remo Williams Book in The Destroyer Series. The title is Bottom Line. Again, a great series of stories which never disappoint.
In the gaming realm, Season 4: Wild Dogs started today in Call of Duty Mobile, They have introduced some new challenges, the melee weapon Kali Sticks, and a whole host of new characters including a new skin for the Ghost player. There’s also a new map dropping called Satellite. It’s going to be great fun! I completed one of the new challenges yesterday.
My sister and I often talk about things while we hang out watching TV. One of the things I suggested was a hobby. Everyone needs a hobby. Something to look forward to after work or chores, or whatever you do that you consider work. I look forward to my game time after I’ve finished my tasks for the day. Painting, crafting, hiking, or whatever just wakes you up each day is something to consider. We all need balance in our lives. Hobbies are a terrific way to pass the time and enjoy life.
Well, that’s all I got for today. If you haven’t watched Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, or Ozark, I highly recommend all of them. They are terrific! If you’re into mobile gaming, give Call of Duty a whirl, it is an awesome game and the creativity these guys bring to the table is unbelievable. I have never been disappointed.
Well, that’s it for now. Have a great Thursday everybody!
I qualified for the second stage of the CODM World Championship. It’s really cool that they open these tournaments up to anyone. I’m currently at the Master Stage, leaving only Grandmaster and Legendary left to accomplish. There were also 8 challenges this season. Those were great fun and dropped some mean loot.
I’m reading a new Remo Williams book called Bottom Line. It is yet another story where Remo and Chiun are saving the U.S. from some horrible threat. As you can tell, I really enjoy these books!
My sister and I are in season 6 of The Sopranos, the final season. Since we just discovered that the new Ozark season is starting soon, we are putting off Game of Thrones and will watch that one next. No spoilers, folks, but The Sopranos has been an awesome ride!
Well, that’s it folks! I hope you have a great Thursday!
My sister and I started a new documentary called War in the Pacific: Eagle Against the Sun. Some of the video quality is a little off, compared to other WWII documentaries we’ve watched, but this one is exclusively on the Pacific war. Boy is it fascinating. We are learning things about the Pacific war that we had no idea about. So far, we have seen the precursors to Japan going to war (Why they did it) and are just finishing up with the Battle of Midway and Guadalcanal.
For those of you who are Ozark fans, the series just launched a new season on Netflix. Sister and I will be binge watching that on Saturday. We’ll also order a pizza so we have food all day long. I can’t wait!
I’ve been deeply involved in Call of Duty Mobile. This new season had all kinds of challenges that I’ve completed. I’m waiting for a few more that will kick off on the 28th. It’s great fun. I’m currently working on the PPSH submachine gun camo to get it to gold. I’m also working on the prize fighter melee weapon. Yep, you guessed it. The prize fighter melee weapon is a pair of boxing gloves. You run around the battle field and knock your enemies out. It’s great fun!
Oh! I’m also concentrating my fiction reading this year on The Destroyer series, featuring it’s characters Remo Williams, his mentor Chiun, and the boss of Cure, Doctor Harold W. Smith. These are great books and only take about a week or sometimes a few days to knock out. The series has 120+ books, so it’ll be a while before I read something else. The book I’m reading currently is called: Sweet Dreams.
Well, that’s it for now, folks. Have a great Thursday!
We got snow and it is still coming. What a wonderful time of year. For those of you who have to drive in this, you have my pity. From my standpoint, knowing I do not have to go anywhere, it is a treat to look at the snow from the comfort of my easy chair, laptop up, and a cup of coffee next to me.
There was a posting from one of my friends that talked about God. It mentioned that some believe and some do not believe. That sentiment can be used for anything, based on an individual’s point of view. For me, the snow is terrific. For others, it not be so great, since they have to be in it. One person comes to mind–the local postman. He has to drive through this from mailbox to mailbox. It also raised another person, who may have lost power. So as with our individual beliefs about God, our beliefs about the snow or other happenings will depend on the individual.
Motivation is another hot topic when it comes to individuality. Some people are naturally motivated because it is a core part of their personality. Others need external sources for their motivation. One is internal; one is external. The internal motivation is called intrinsic, while the external one is extrinsic. Which is better? I think we need a combination of both, depending on the task.
One of the things I have discovered is that intrinsic motivation is like a muscle. You have to exercise it for it to become stronger. How do we build it? By doing something each day we love to do. Call it a hobby if you will. A hobby is something we look forward to. So, intrinsic motivation to do these things is easy. The pleasure principle comes to mind.
What about the things that are hard? Well, this is when extrinsic motivation comes in. We pay our taxes because the IRS is the extrinsic force. We pay our bills because the various companies and services we enjoy require we pay for them. These too are extrinsic forces. Another extrinsic force is our own bodies. When we get sick or have a toothache, the body lets us know and we are motivated by that pain to do something about it.
So use these types of motivation to get things done. I believe a hobby or favorite thing to do is important because it gives us a reason to get all the things done we may not like to do, but have to do. Then we can get in some “play” time. Use the play time you have scheduled each day to drive those tasks you do not want to do. It is so much more rewarding to do the things we love when all of our “must do” tasks are completed.
Now, if you are lucky enough to have a job that you consider enjoyable–bravo. You look forward to each day of work, like I do my video games after things are completed for the day.
You may want to do a personal assessment. List out all the things you do each day and determine what type of motivation you use to get that done. Is it intrinsic or extrinsic?
My sister and I are still watching the WWII series I discussed last week. It is approaching its end, as we are now after the D-Day invasion, and the battle of Minsk on the Eastern Front. The Americans in the Pacific are launching attacks into the Mariana islands. It is a great series.
Call of Duty started its new season called The Heist. There will be new characters, new weapons, and new challenges. I was so excited to start playing yesterday! Currently I am grinding through shotguns to get them all gold. After these, I have the marksman rifles and sniper weapons to work on. I began getting more efficient and worked on gold camouflage for all of my melee weapons as well. I am currently working on the baseball bat melee weapon.
I haven’t watched any movies since our last chat, but there are a few that I am interested in. I’ll keep you posted on what my sister and I watch.
Well, that’s it for the week. I hope all of you have a great rest of the week.
