Well, we are getting lots of snow and we’re scheduled to get a heck of a lot more before the day’s out. If you are in the belt of the storm that is currently hitting the U.S., be careful when you’re out driving. I have to make a run today, but going to be going very slow, as many of the roads around my home are not cleared and the driving is a little treacherous.

Well, my sister and I are still watching Ozark. We finished season 4, part 1, but decided to rewatch the entire show beginning in season 1. Wow, this story is so good. Last night, sis made some popcorn. I’m not a huge fan of popcorn, but last night, sis’ popcorn hit the spot. If you’ve never watched Ozark, I highly recommend it. It is one heck of a ride.

I’m playing through a new challenge that came up on CODM. It requires I engage in some ranked play. It has been a lot of fun. I only have one more thing to do to finish it today. They also have a zombie event, which comes and goes throughout the season, with its own set of challenges to complete. It’s a great part of the game and it helps break up the monotony that can come when I play too much team deathmatch, frontline, or battle royale. Typically, I’ll get in a few hours each day. They also have daily challenges, which keep me busy.

I also dabbled in Far Cry 6. They have a very unique angle in this version. Spoiler Alert: Once you finish the game, insurgencies start cropping up weekly, which require you to go back out and retake bases, checkpoints, and perform other tasks. It is a great way to realistically keep the game going indefinitely. One of my readers suggested the Fallout series of games. That may be a possibility. There’s more to do in Far Cry, but Fallout was a pretty neat game when I played it. I only played the first one, but the reader who suggested Fallout said that Fallout 3 and 4 are terrific. I may take that up. I’m always in for a great long-term game like these, particularly those which fall into the “open world” category. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the open world genre gives the player the freedom to go wherever they want, take on any challenge they want, and in any order. What makes the Fallout games unique is that the endings are impacted by what you do during the game.

This year, I am focusing my reading on The Destroyer series. I wanted to add books to my list, because it is another hobby of mine. Since the series is composed of over 140 books, it will be a great thing to set my sights on. I am currently reading The Last Temple. Each of these books is literally a few hours of reading, so I typically get through around two of them a week. If you like adventure, action, and some dark humor, you’ll enjoy these books. They are terrific!

Well, that’s it for this week. We’ll probably finish the Ozark series this week. My sister and I just finished season 2 and will start on season 3 tonight. Typically, we’ll watch a couple of episodes each night (2 or 3). Since each season has 10 episodes, that’s around 3 nights of viewing. Then, who knows?

Enjoy the snow! Be safe! Have a great Thursday!

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Hobbies, Games, and Movies – WW2 and Call of Duty Mobile

This week we are continuing our viewing of all things WWII. There are ton of documentaries on Amazon, YouTube, and Netflix. Right now we are watching WW2 – The Call of Duty – A complete Timeline. It is on Amazon Prime. Each episode is about 45 minutes and it is terrific.

I’m still plugging away at Far Cry 6 and Call of Duty Mobile. Call of Duty Mobile, like it’s counterpart, Call of Duty for the Xbox, has a system of earning camouflage for each weapon. The goal is to get all weapons to gold camouflage. To get gold, so many kills, hip shot kills, head shot kills, long shot kills are tabulated. Once all of the camouflage challenges are completed the gold camouflage is unlocked. I enjoy the challenges and daily tasks associated with this game. Each provides an award and a sense of accomplishment.

Far Cry 6 has been on the back burner for a bit, but I’ll get back on that this weekend. Surprisingly, I have not played Call of Duty on my Xbox since it came out. Mobile has kept me too busy. There is also my Dad to consider. He is now at the point where he can’t be left alone. So, I play my game on my iPad, while Mom is out and about. I also have a lot of things on my plate currently that must be tackled during the day.

Well, that’s it for this week’s installment.

Until next time…

Now that I’m retired, I tend to have a great deal of hobbies. My hobbies are video games and watching documentaries. Every once in a while I catch a good movie, but documentaries are my thing. This year, I’m going to use Thursdays to share what I’m playing, what I’m watching, and give you my thoughts on all.

Gaming is my passion. Currently I’m playing a lot of Call of Duty – Mobile. I also played a different genre of game, called Far Cry 6. These are both terrific games. Call of Duty is season-based, with each new season introducing new characters, new stories and plots, and tons of different types of mobile fighting from team deathmatch, frontline, control, seek and destroy, and the ever-famous battle royals, which are a lot of fun to play as well.

Far Cry 6 is a game about a dictator who is using his people as slaves to produce a cancer fighting wonder drug. The problem–one of the ingredients used to create the drug is killing the very people that are kidnapped and forced to work the fields the drug is grown. You are a guerilla who helps overthrow this government.

I’ve played numerous versions of Far Cry, starting at Far Cry 1, and in Far Cry 6 there is a twist. After you beat the game (I won’t spoil it), there are insurgencies that crop up each week. You have to beat down each insurgency as they arise by completing different types of missions. It’s a great idea and one that keeps the game fresh for a long time, without making any new purchases. How novel, right?

Documentaries I am watching are all about WWII. I finished Ken Burn’s The War, and now watching A World at War on YouTube. The War will run you about $20 U.S., but worth the money. Ken Burns picked four American towns and highlighted the WWII veterans that lived there, telling the unique stories each had to tell. Many of the veterans are now dead, but at the time it was made, they were all alive and told their stories during the show.

What’s next? I plan on purchasing a series called the Pacific. It is a drama, but highlights one of the characters in Ken Burn’s documentary, Eugene Sledge, who picked up the nickname of sledgehammer while he served in the Marine Corps. It has a great collection of actors and Tom Hanks was involved in the making of the film. He does a great job with these types of films.

To give you a taste of one of the games I play, here is the trailer from YouTube for Far Cry 6. It is a terrific game!

If you’re a gamer, try this one out. It’s a winner in my opinion!

Until next time…

A loving heart is the truest wisdom.

Charles Dickens

We forge the chains we wear in life.

Charles Dickens

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.

Charles Dickens

I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

Charles Dickens

Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childhood days, recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth, and transport the traveler back to his own fireside and quiet home!

Charles Dickens

I wanted to touch on Dickens again, since he is so connected with the holiday season with many of his tales that celebrate Christmas. Here is his Wikipedia link for those that would like to know more about him and his life: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Dickens

I wish all of you a wonderful Christmas! I’m shutting Daily Ramblings down early, because we are starting our celebration of the holidays early. These last few weeks in December, I shut down everything to truly enjoy the holiday season, get some gifts out to extended family, and get in some final relax time before we begin getting busy in 2022. I’ll still check in to reply to comments and such, but will not be putting anymore postings up this year.

Today, I celebrate my wedding anniversary, on the 12th my wife’s birthday, and of course, the 25th for Christmas, and the 31st for New Year’s Eve. It has been a great year for me, and I hope all of you, despite all the craziness of COVID and all the repercussions of lockdowns in many of your home countries.

I sincerely wish each of you the very best during the holiday season. I wish you every happiness, every joy, and hope that you have some time to settle down and enjoy your families and friends as we close out 2021.

For those of you who are gamers in my readership, I’ll be playing Far Cry 6, Call of Duty Vanguard, Call of Duty Mobile, and Mafia City. My gamertag in all the Call of Duty games is ieatbullets63. If you find me, send me a quick note that you are one of my readers, and we’ll get in some “kills” together. The new Warzone is out today, featuring Caldera Island. I cannot wait to dig in!!

Happy Holidays! See you in 2022!!

Until next time…

Well, I’ve found another great game to play. It’s called Far Cry 6. These games fall into the roll playing genre, as you are running with someone who is a guerrilla and trying to take down a dictator of a small island in the pacific. It has a main mission thread, which progresses you through the game to its finale, but more interesting are the side missions, which are all over the place. Couple that with the plundering you have to do to build better and better weapons, and boy, you have a game that will keep you busy for quite a while. I also like these types of games because they allow co-op play. My brother can play too. It is terrific!

So that’s what I am grateful for today. Far Cry 6! It is a great game, has some terrific things to do, and more importantly, will last probably for the next few months. Call of Duty Vanguard is coming out in November, so that’s another one I’ll be playing.

That’s it for today, folks!

Until next time…

Dave
