I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

When we hear the name Confucius, we envision an old wise man. Although he was alive centuries ago, many still study him and his works. Here is his Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confucius

I hope you enjoyed the short video and Wikipedia page. Confucius lived over 2,500 years ago. He still has an mpact on the world we live in today.

Happy Wednesday, all!

Daily Ramblings – Free Writing Friday – Happiness

I read an article in Nice News (Here’s the link: https://nicenews.com/culture/what-happiest-people-have-in-common-survey/). The article was about a survey that sought out things that people who designated themselves as either pretty happy or very happy across the United States. They found that friendships and involvement in the community were key factors. Interestingly, happiness was not due to a person’s wealth.

I have found over the years that happiness is a state of mind. I am the person who decides to be happy or sad. It really is an intrinsic thing. At least for me. The folks who I know that are only happy when things external to them make them happy, are not happy at all. They are unhappy if the weather is bad, their job is not working out, or some other external thing. They chase happiness only to find out that what they thought would make them happy–didn’t.

I am very happy with my life. I have the privilege of helping out my folks and spending time with them in their senior years. I have a great wife. I have awesome siblings. I am also very happy when I get the opportunity to teach others, play games with others, and serve others when they need some help. When I do for others, my happiness increases dramatically. It’s a feeling that can’t be bought. It is like a wave of love comes back when you give of yourself to someone else. It’s hard to explain.

If you’re unhappy, cultivate happiness by just being happy. I know this may seem like an insurmountable task, but it really is just that simple. We decide to be happy or sad or angry or guilty. It is all a state of mind.

Well, that’s all I got for today, folks. I hope all of you have a terrific Friday!

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Free Writing Friday – The Important Things

Make space in your life for the things that matter, for family and friends, love and generosity, fun and joy. Without this, you will burn out in mid-career and wonder where your life went.

Jonathan Sacks

You’ve probably read about many individuals, who on their death bed, realized they didn’t spend enough time with their families. You’ve probably read about the number one contributor to an early death–loneliness. You’ve read the quote. In a nutshell, get out there and have fun. Your job will be there when you go back to work. Enjoy your hobbies, enjoy your family, enjoy your friends.

It is so, so important to enjoy your life. Yeah, we all have our problems, but put those problems aside for a few hours, even a day, and enjoy your weekend. Enjoy your family. Recharge yourself by using all the great things you have in life and truly enjoy them. You’ll feel great and you’ll be ready to rock and roll on Monday.

To end today’s posting, I wanted to share a short video presented by the late Carl Sagan. It is called the Pale Blue Dot. I am always in awe of this man’s words and how, in a short few minutes, he explains how petty our differences, and how important it is to take care of our planet, the only home we know. I hope you enjoy it.

Your friends, your family, and your pets are the most precious things you have in your life. Enjoy them this weekend.

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Motivation Monday – Enjoying the Moment

Baby, family, Grandkids, motivation, new dog, put on hold, To-do List

Today, we got a visit from the grandkids. They have a six-month old baby. Boy is he cute. We also got a new dog. His name is Oliver. I’ll get some pics of him online in a few days. He’s worn out right now. He played and played and was totally enthralled with the baby.

On days like today, it’s best to put all the things I normally do on hold for a bit. It’s always great to take advantage of family when they visit. Catching up with them and seeing how things are going with them is terrific. George the grandson is changing the baby right now and all you can hear is “Oh God”, because she was quite a mess. Mikhayla, George’s wife came to the rescue and helped out. What a nice scene!

We’ve got George and Emily the grandkids, Mikayla the wife, and the baby Elaina. We’ve got two dogs, Bella and Oliver. Then there’s Mom, Dad, and me. It’s a great time.

Always take time for family. Life is so fleeting. Enjoy the moments you have with them. You won’t get them back.

I used to feel guilty if I didn’t get something done when special circumstances like this arise, but that was wasteful. Enjoy these moments and put your to-do list on hold. It’ll be there tomorrow.

Well, it’s time to get back to the family. Have a great day, folks!

Until next time…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bothie_(dog)

Here’s an interesting tidbit for your Friday. Bothie is the only dog to walk on the North and South Pole. I thought this was really wild! I’ve placed the link to the Wikipedia article to read more about him. It’s a short read, but a nice trivial trek.

I really love history. I was rummaging around YouTube, and I found this great documentary on Napoleon Bonaparte. Here’s the link for your viewing pleasure:

Since I talk about Crash Course World History, here’s their YouTube channel with all 40 episodes:

Well, that’s it for now, folks. I hope you all have a great Friday.

For most this word means nothing, but it is an ideal way of living. When one achieves Ikigai, they are doing what they love, serving others, making money, and they are good at this thing they’ve chosen. Here’s a video to explain Ikigai. If you are in a job that you hate, you may want to try looking for something that aligns with Ikigai, it could make a huge difference in your life.

If you’d like to learn more, here is a link from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikigai

I like introducing topics that you may not be aware of. It’s fun looking for them, and it is also fun to learn about them. I hope you enjoyed the video and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Daily Ramblings – Bonus Content – Thanksgiving Countdown

Christmas, family, Friends, Good Food, Good times, Gratitude, Happiness, Holidays, New Years, passion, recharge, Relaxation, Thanksgiving

Ooh! Pumpkin pie, turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and all the rest await! It’s going to be a great Thanksgiving this year, like every year. I’ll be making the final grocery run tomorrow and I always end up getting more than we need.

I’m not much of a football fan, so I don’t watch the games, nor do I watch the parades. I used to when I was a kid, but now, I just enjoy hanging out and doing whatever. I’ll be doing a little gaming, reading, hanging out with the family, and eating a truckload of food, on and off all day long.

I decided today would be my last posting for the year, other than my holiday postings. I was going to continue all the way to the end of the month, but decided it was time to just shut things down for the rest of 2022. It’s been a great year, folks.

I’ve made some great friends here, that I would not have met anywhere else. So here’s a shameless plug for their blogs, in case you are interested:

https://kmallan.com/ – K.M. Allan is an Australian YA author. Her Blackbirch series is terrific. If you’re thinking of writing a book, she provides all kinds of tips, tricks, and real-world experience writing and publishing a book. She mailed me a copy of her first book, which was not cheap, and I so appreciate her.

https://tierneycreates.com/ – Enjoy crafting? Check out this blog for anything related to quilting, travel to cool places, and even some postings from one of her creations. Her husband is also quite the craftsman.

https://joannaoftheforest.wordpress.com/ – If you want some great pictures of the outdoors and enjoy reading articles that are happy and interesting, you’ll want to check out here postings.

I consider all three of these bloggers friends, because they always respond to my blog postings and we have had some interesting interactions.

Well, folks. I hope all of you have a terrific holiday season and get some time with friends, family, and your favorite hobbies. I’ll be doing what I love–gaming, reading, and writing. I’ll also be making some decisions about some daily postings that I’ve done this year, that I may change up, just to keep things fresh and help me explore new areas that I have not dove into before.

Happy Holidays, folks.

See you in 2023!

Until next time…

Dave
