My routine this week, after taking a few weeks off, is to do a combination of bodyweight exercises, combined with my new exercise bands.

Workout – Monday – Sunday

Stair step lunges

Standing Calf Presses

Bodyweight Pushups

Exercise bands curls

Exercise bands Standing Rows

Exercise bands Lateral raises

Standing Exercise Band Ab Crunches

This first week, I’ll stick with one set of 10 for each exercise to get the body moving again. I’m also going to continue to follow moving around every hour for about 1 minute. This could be jumping jacks, walking up and down stairs, or doing some other aerobic activity, to keep the blood flowing and get out of my chair.

Welcome to my Workout Routine for the week of November 9, 2020. As we approach the harsh winter in Michigan, I am much more prepared than last year. Each year, we get some big snows. This makes driving really difficult and treacherous. To avoid that risk, I purchased some exercise bands from Bodylastic, and I am very pleased.

I’ve also been studying some of Jim Stoppani’s work. One of Jim’s biggest insights is that sitting is the new smoking. I couldn’t agree more. My life is very sedentary, now that I’m retired. I exercise daily, but discovered through Jim’s website (jimstoppani.com) that he follows a rule where he is doing an activity above his daily workout routine. This week, I’m going to incorporate that. This will add some variety to my workout and let me focus on one body-part each day.

Because I have an Apple Watch, I am reminded to stand up every hour. I’ll use this as my cue to do some exercise. Here’s my schedule for the week:

Monday – Legs

Tuesday – Back

Wednesday – Chest

Thursday – Shoulders

Friday – Arms

Saturday – Abs and Calves

Sunday – Off

I’ll be mixing in some Tabata work in as well. My Tabata format will be:

8 minutes of exercise (20 seconds exercise, 20 seconds rest)

All, as you know, the winter months in Michigan can be quite brutal, leaving our roads an absolute mess. To compensate, many of my exercise days are home. This year will be no different. I had some exercise bands (loops of rubber), but wanted to elevate my game, so I have the same access to exercises that I would have at my gym.

If you’re also in a tough spot because of gym closures or poor weather that disrupt the consistency of your gym workouts, I’d highly recommend these or an equivalent. This week, I’ll be taking it easy. My brother is visiting from out of town and I want to spend as much time as I can with him.

I’ll be working out on my exercise bike and using my exercise bands, while he is here.

Mon – Wed – Fri – Full Body – Exercise Bands

Tue – Thu – Sat – Exercise Bike – 20 minutes

Sunday – Off (taking brother back to the airport)

Gyms are still closed in Michigan and we are making do. This week, because of inclement weather, we’ll be doing cardio on the home cycle and exercising with exercise bands.

Mon-Thu: Cardio 20 minutes, exercise bands (full-body)

Friday: Off

Saturday-Sunday: Cardio 20-minutes, exercise bands (full-body)

Monday – Thursday, Saturday-Sunday:

I’ll continue the current routine this week, with full body circuits (3) using my exercise bands. I’ve also decided on building my own home gym. The gyms opening and closures are not conducive to a consistent workout routine and I don’t want to be in this position again. Another challenge is my folks are both in their late 70s and early 80s, both with underlying conditions, which puts them both in a very susceptible position. I don’t want to risk getting them sick, so I’ll continue to workout at home, and begin putting together a decent gym at my place.

Initially, I’ll start with a basic flat bench and some dumbbells. Then, I’ll move onto some bigger equipment like a squat rack, etc. Wish me luck.

In the comments, put down what you’ll be doing this week, to stay healthy and strong. I’d like to hear from you.

Happy Monday, peeps!

This week’s routine will again be at home, because of the gym closures in our area. It appears we in the U.S. jumped the gun a little too quickly and are not facing some pretty big numbers of people getting the nasty bug running around. So now, many states are re-instituting lock downs in areas that are most affected.

This is the beauty of planning ahead. I developed a pretty decent workout routine with exercise bans and I am glad I 1) purchased them when I did and 2) use them on my workout days. It’s cool how a little bit of improvisation can eliminate the annoyance of not having a gym to go to right now.

On with the show!

Monday – Saturday – Full body circuits (3)

Full body circuit: Squats, Bridges, Ab crunches, Incline Chest Press, Triceps extensions, Bicep curls, Bent-over rows, Shoulder presses, and Calf presses. I try to do a set of 10 for each body part with no rest for the entire circuit, then rest and kick into the next circuit after about 2 minutes of hydration and resting.

I hope each of you are working out ways to continue your exercise routines, despite outside, uncontrollable circumstances.

Here we are in the first full week of July. It was a bummer to find out my gym was closing again, but that’s life. So this week, we’ll be doing home workouts again, until this virus is more under control and my gym reopens.

This week:

Monday – Friday: Full body circuit with exercise bands (3 iterations)

Exercise Circuit: Squats, Bridges, Standing Calf presses, Ab crunches, Pushups, Shoulder Press, Bicep Curls, Triceps extensions.
