Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Arthur C. Clarke

The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.

Arthur C. Clarke

The best measure of a man’s honesty isn’t his income tax return. It’s the zero adjust on his bathroom scale.

Arthur C. Clarke

I don’t believe in astrology; I’m a Sagittarius and we’re skeptical.

Arthur C. Clarke

Sometimes I think we’re alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we’re not. In either case the idea is quite staggering.

Arthur C. Clarke

If you’ve ever watched the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, then you know Arthur C. Clarke. He was considered one of the top three science fiction writers of his time, along with Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein. Happy Hump Day!

I hope you enjoy this video. It’s an important topic to me, because both my wife and mother have it. It is tough for them to read, to write, and even communicate, because of the wiring of their brains. Enjoy!

It’s Tuesday, folks and I hope you have a great one.

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Motivation Monday – Rewards

Another big motivator is a reward. You do something hard, reward yourself. You finish your to-do list, reward yourself. You accomplish a goal, reward yourself.

Rewards motivate us to do the things we’ve tasked ourselves with and give us something to look forward to. When I finish a task on my list, I play some games. I love video games, so this reward motivates me to get my stuff done, so I can play. The reward must be something you look forward to. It has to be your favorite thing, whether it’s a nap, a snack, television show, or some other thing. The reward must be worth the work you do or this tactic will not motivate you.

So if you have a long list of to-dos, spread out your rewards throughout the day. Knock out five tasks and take a nap. Knock out five more and watch your favorite show. I like to sprinkle rewards throughout the day because it keeps me rolling along. There is always something to look forward to.

Happy Monday, folks!

Until next time…

Today, folks, I’m watching the CODM World Championships. We’re in Stage 4 and North America is the region. Tribe is expected to be one of the top teams and they are playing really well. I don’t have a lot else to say today, because I’m really enjoying these championships. If you’d like to check them out, here’s the link on YouTube for live streaming. You can also watch it later if your schedule doesn’t work for this.

If you are a CODM fan like me, watching these top players gives me a lot of great ideas and insights, particularly how to play different maps and games. The key games they are using are: Search and Destroy, Hardpoint, and Control. I was surprised they did not have Team Deathmatch in them.

Have a great weekend, folks!

Happy Gaming!

I’m still reading Star Carrier. An interesting twist has arrived. It appears that the recently discovered aliens know how to travel through time. Boy, the story is getting good.

My sister came back home and I bought season 4 of the West Wing. Sis and I started watching it this last weekend. I really love this show!

Now that I’ve finished Kyle Pew’s (Office Newb) PowerPoint course, it’s back to his MS Excel course. Now that I have one of his courses under my belt, I’ll be taking all of his other courses. MS Word, MS Access, and all the rest. I really like this guy. Not to mention, each course I buy, is mine forever. So, they are great reference for future work.

I hope all of you have a terrific Thursday!

Until next time…

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.

All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.

I have never met a man so ignorant that I couldn’t learn something from him.

If I were again beginning my studies, I would follow the advice of Plato and start with mathematics.

Galileo Galilei

We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.

If you’ve ever wondered what contributes to a bad night’s sleep or why you may be having difficulty sleeping, here’s a great video that describes some of the best ways to improve sleep or identify something that may be causing your sleep problem. Both my sister and brother suffer from sleep apnea and need a CPAP machine. Luckily I don’t have to deal with that!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video. Have a great Tuesday!

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Motivation Monday – Learning

There is an event I was supposed to give a presentation to, but had to back out because of my family situation. To meet my obligation, I created a PowerPoint presentation that I converted into a video. All in PowerPoint! How did I do this? I learned how.

Whenever we are presented with a problem, particularly one that we do not know how to solve, we tend to procrastinate. I know I did. But, I solved the problem by taking a PowerPoint course on Udemy. Here’s the link: https://www.udemy.com/share/102gUM3@UBmn5-rxpk4mJ0JGZ6ZORLDOZi4WjMZqTbztQLkb_ZxR2E8NJcUAXIZ8NbEYeZ3f/

Motivation to learn is sometimes driven by what we need to do. I had a presentation to give. Others may have other tasks, but not know how to do what they need to know. Where does one go? For me, my “go to” is either YouTube or Udemy. I always gravitate toward Udemy because I enjoy learning in a step-by-step manner, which most of the instructors on Udemy use in their courses.

You may search through blogs, search YouTube, or just do an internet search in general. My brother used a YouTube video to replace a bad garbage disposal once.

So, if you have a problem, which involves learning something, get online and start looking around. You’ll find the answer. Once you’ve learned what you need to, motivation to get the task done takes care of itself. I could not wait to put my presentation together. The folks running the retreat I was supposed to attend, got the presentation and loved it.

Well, that’s it for today, folks. Motivation improves when we know what we need to do, and more importantly how to do it.

Have a great Monday, folks.

Until next time…

Boy, what a weekend. I’ve been watching Stage 4 of the CODM World Championships and really enjoying them. This weekend is Japan and Europe. Japan’s teams are competing for their one and only slot to go to Stage 5, where they will compete with top teams from other countries. Europe’s teams are competing one of three slots given to them for the final stage.

If you’ve never seen these before, you’ll learn quite a bit watching them. You’ll see some great spots to get to in each map. You’ll also learn how to play Search and Destroy, Hardpoint, and Control. I am pretty decent at Hardpoint, but not that great with Search and Destroy or Control. Watching these gives me a better idea of how to tackle each of these game modes when I play.

Here’s the YouTube link for all things CODM: https://www.youtube.com/c/CODMEsports.

I achieved Legendary in Multiplayer and Battle Royal this last week. Man, I’m so happy. This is something I added to my task list for playing the game and so glad I did. Next Saturday, I’ll give you some tips and tricks for achieving Legendary status in both sides of the game.

Well, that’s it for now.

Happy Gaming!

Dave
