An adorable old woman visits the doctor. “Doctor, I have this problem with gas, but it really doesn’t bother me too much. It never smells and is always silent. As a matter of fact, I’ve farted at least ten times since I’ve been here in your office. You didn’t know I was farting because it doesn’t smell and is silent.”

The doctor says, “I see. Take these pills and come back to see me next week.”

The next week the lady returns. “Doctor,” she says, “I don’t know what the heck you gave me, but now my farts, although still silent, stink terribly.”

“Good,” the doctor says.

“Now that we’ve cleared up your sinuses, let’s work on your hearing.”

Daily Ramblings – Thankful Thursday – Sisters

My sister just left for home. It was a nice 5 days. We watched movies, got take out, hung out in the living room and chatted, and she even watched me play some Call of Duty with my brother. It was a great visit! She likes coming down and hanging out with Dad because we don’t know how much longer Dad will be with us. Last night, they watched some Star Trek movies (Dad loves those).

It’s terrific to have family visit. The folks get a kick out of it, and it’s always fun to catch up. When I have a family member visit, you’ve probably noticed a little inconsistency with my postings. I put everything I am doing on hold when family comes to maximize my time with them.

Anyway, I’m grateful for the time we had together. It was great fun!

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Update – Sister Visit

Dad, Dad-Daughter time, family, Movies, Schedule, Shows, Sister, Television, time, Translation

Hi folks!

For those of you who follow my blog consistently, you’ll notice I missed yesterday’s posting and today’s is not a video from Ted Talks or TedEd. My sister is visiting. When she comes my schedule goes out the window, to accommodate her and her visit. We always have a great time when she comes over. So this is what I wanted to pass along.

Her schedule is pretty open, so I don’t know if she’ll be staying much longer or hitting the road today. Either way, my schedule of postings will be interrupted for a bit, while she’s here, so I can maximize my time with her. She lives a few hours away, and we talk over the phone and stuff, but it’s not the same as her being here. For those of you with family scattered all over, you know what I’m talking about. I always maximize my time with my sister and brother when they visit, because it isn’t often.

Right now, her and Dad are downstairs watching Star Trek on Amazon. Dad loves television shows and movies, and she and dad always get in one day of watching shows when she visits. It’s their time, and I squeak away to get some of my things done when she does this with dad. Dad has been deteriorating lately. He doesn’t eat as much, sleeps most of his day away, and that’s just what happens when people get close to passing. It’s like God prepares them for the next step on their journey by keeping them in the dream worlds more and more as they approach the end.

I realize this may sound a little melodramatic, but I noticed this type of behavior in our dog Goldie when she was getting close to passing. The elderly just sleep. When the passing time comes, we call it translation in Eckankar; the individual is well-prepared for it. This is what I see with Dad. So when Deb comes over, I let her maximize her time with Dad. I am with him every day, and I don’t need the time she doesn’t get while she is away.

Well, that’s it for today, folks. I hope you all are having a great Tuesday!

Until next time…

Three senior citizens are sitting on a park bench complaining about their failing bodies.

“Every morning I get up at 6 a.m.,” the first man explains, “and try to pee, but nothing but a trickle comes out.”

The second man adds, “I get up at 6 a.m. too, and it feels like I’ve got to move my bowels, but I sit down on the toilet and nothing happens.”

The third man chimes in the conversation and tells his friends, “I pee and move my bowels at exactly 7 a.m. every morning.”

“That’s not bad, “the first man responds. “Why are you complaining?”

The third man admits, “The problem is I don’t usually wake up until 8 a.m.”

Today, I’m grateful for a warm, comfortable home. It’s paid for, everything works, and it is just so cozy. I have my little nook in the living room by the front room window where I do my work, read, write, learn, etc. When I go to bed at night, I think about how grateful I am for this life. It didn’t turn out the way I thought it would, but the surprises in life along the way have been terrific.

Life is full of surprises, yet in the end, things always work out for the best—a “best” we could not have foreseen. I’ll leave it here for today. Take stock of what you are grateful for. I do this every day, and it is a treasured time to contemplate all the good in my life. We have so much control over how we react to the challenges, joys, and surprises in life. Look for the good and you’ll find it.

Until next time…

To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a rage almost all the time.

James Baldwin

The most dangerous creation of any society is the man who has nothing to lose.

James Baldwin

Anyone who has ever struggled with poverty knows how extremely expensive it is to be poor.

James Baldwin

Those who say it can’t be done are usually interrupted by others doing it.

James Baldwin

I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.

James Baldwin

I hope you enjoyed these quotes from another great American civil rights activist and novelist. Here’s a Wikipedia link to learn more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Baldwin I love learning about different people. This makes Wednesday one of my favorite days as I explore the web for interesting content. Have a great Wednesday, folks!

Daily Ramblings – Thinking Tuesday – First Flight on Mars!!

There are so many things in the news, that it is hard to keep track of what is going on. One thing I have always been interested in is outer space, NASA, and anything related to science. I wanted to share this short video offered on the NASA.gov website showing our first aircraft flight on another planet–MARS!!!

This is truly inspiring, because many of the things we are doing now were only dreamed of by science fiction writers. It is truly a great day to see something like this occur in my lifetime. I hope you all enjoy this.

Make it a great week, folks!

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Thankful Thursday – A New Family Member

Bella, Covid, family, Grateful, Gratitude, new dog, Shot, Thankful

Today, I’m grateful for our new doggie, Bella. Here’s a picture of her, as promised.

Her name is Bella. We lost our last dog, Goldie, in 2019, and it was time to get another one. A family friend gave her to us. She is a little timid still, but she’s a great addition to the family.

So today, I’m grateful to have a new dog. It’s great to have these little companions. They add so much to the family.

I hope you have a great day!

Oh! We got our 2nd COVID shot, and it’s not as bad as people told us it would be. We were all achy yesterday, but most of the effects have subsided. I’m glad I got the shot. I feel much more comfortable about getting back to the gym next week, now that I have had it. If my folks and I do get COVID, the shot will minimize our chances of getting the nastier effects from COVID.

Have a great Thursday, folks!

Until next time…

5 Quotes, COVID-19 shots, cures, Immune System, Jonas Salk, polio, vaccinations, vaccine, wisdom

Before providing you with your weekly dose of wisdom, I have to say that the second COVID shot is nothing to be afraid of. Yeah, I woke up this morning with a few aches and pains, but after a few hours, drinking lots of water, I am feeling much better. I figure the side effects of COVID two will subside by tomorrow. My folks, who also got the COVID vaccinations, are also dealing with flu-like symptoms (headache and body aches, a little temperature). I wanted to get this shot to protect them and enable my return to my gym. The vaccination does not prevent infection; it prevents the life-threatening aspects of COVID-19 should we get infected. So there’s that. On to the 5 quotes.

The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more.

Jonas Salk

Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality.

Jonas Salk

Nothing happens quite by chance. It’s a question of accretion of information and experience.

Jonas Salk

Intuition will tell the thinking mind where to look next.

Jonas Salk

I pictured myself as a virus or a cancer cell and tried to sense what it would be like.

Jonas Salk

Jonas Salk, among his many achievements, discovered the vaccine that prevented polio in children, a disease that ravaged generations and crippled many, including the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Here’s a Wikipedia link in case you are curious about his life: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonas_Salk

Have a great Wednesday, folks!

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Ted Talk Tuesday – Voting Systems

Politics, Suffrage, Ted Talk, Ted Talk Tuesday, Voting, Voting Systems

With all the hoopla surrounding the presidential election of 2020, I thought this would be a good video for my reading audience. I enjoyed this talk and hope you do too. Watch Amber McReynolds discuss voting/election systems and how they should benefit the voter, not the politicians.

One more announcement. I got the second shot for the COVID vaccine today. I may be out of it tomorrow and the next day, if my reaction is the same as my wife’s and niece’s. Just a head’s up in case I do not post tomorrow or the next day. I don’t feel bad at all right now, but we just got the shot a few hours ago. I’m playing it by ear.

Until next time…

Dave
