5 Quotes, Author, Foundation series, Humor, Isaac Asimov, Robot, Scientist, wisdom
People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.
The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not ‘Eureka!’ but ‘That’s funny…’
Humanity has the stars in its future, and that future is too important to be lost under the burden of juvenile folly and ignorant superstition.
The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.
Isaac Asimov was a scientist first, and author second. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, try “I, Robot”, starring Will Smith, for starters. You can also see many videos of him being interviewed by Johnny Carson and David Letterman on YouTube. They are terrific!
Have a great Wednesday, folks!
Until next time…
Dave
I especially like the quotation about the power of the observation, “That’s funny…”

“That science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom,” has bothered me for many years. I hope someday wisdom catches up. I had not heard the one about, “That’s funny,” being the most exciting phrase in science. Thanks for the chuckle on that one. I’m guessing it means funny as in peculiar getting us to question and think outside the box. Speaking of outside the box, I enjoy the movie, I Robot, every time I watch it.

Yes, that is a stark quote. I think about it this way. Technology has increased exponentially and we can’t even create laws to keep up. We marvel at how great technology is, but have no idea what problems we are creating for ourselves. 10 years ago, binge watching would be nonexistent, having issues with focus would have been unheard of, terms like echo chamber and social media’s influence would not have even been contemplated. I think this is what Asimov was driving at. ~Dave
