Well, folks. I hit my 800 follower goal 4 months early. Thank you so much for following my blog. It started in 2016 and I’m so glad that I hit this goal. Thanks for spreading the word, hitting like, and responding to my posts with a comment here and there.

I’ve made some great friends on this platform, have been excited, pissed off, saddened, and experienced every other emotion reading the works of others. The talent I see in book writing, poetry, video making, photography, and just outstanding writing is what brings me back every day to this special place.

If any of you would like to see other content, different categories, etc., feel free to leave a note in the comments.

Again, Thank You so much!

Here’s to 1,000 followers.

Until next time…

Howdy, folks!

I have been contemplating a move for my “do nothing day” and decided that Friday is a better day for that. Subsequently, I’ve decided to shut down my Funny Friday to accommodate this. I’ll still post random funnies that I find, but want to keep my “do nothing day” pure, so Friday has to go.

I hope everyone has a terrific Weekend.

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Thankful Thursday – Grateful For Video Games

Cards, Chess, Dungeons & Dragons, Far Cry 4, Games, Nintendo, Playstation, Pong, Scrabble, Video Games, Xbox

If you’ve never played a video game, this post probably won’t have much meaning for you. I have loved playing games my whole life. It started with board games like Monopoly, Life, and Stratigo. My grandfather got me started with checkers and chess. Later, mom and my grandmother got me started with Scrabble.

As I matured, I ran across Dungeons and Dragons. Boy, that was a game. During my early years, we didn’t have cellphones or computers. We had games like Dungeons and Dragons, which captured our imaginations as we created characters and worked our way through various adventures created by one of our friends.

Later in life, came the Arcades. These new types of games were awesome. I got good enough at a few that I rarely spent any money to play them for hours. Other games never ended, and I got tired of those. From here, we moved to computer games. The first console I owned was an Atari, and we played basic games like Pong and many others. The first types of games I liked to play were the very basic games available at the time. Then came the Nintendo system with all of its Mario games, Zelda, and others.

From here I moved over to the Sony Playstation and finally ended up on the Xbox. The game I’m playing currently is called Far Cry 4 and boy, is it a fun one. The basic story is you are returning to the country of your birth, called Kyrat. You are there to spread your mother’s ashes in Lakshmana. Once you arrive, you are accosted by the country’s dictator. You escape his palace and become involved with a resistance group called the Golden Path. In this game, you can hunt, you can drive vehicles, fly a “buzzer” or a one-manned helicopter, you can grapple and climb mountains, and even use a wingsuit to fly from the top of a mountain to get around, the mountainous terrain.

What’s nice about a video game is the length of time you can play a game for such a minimal price. Yeah, 30, 40, or 50 dollars may seem steep for a “game”, but when you consider that the first time I played through Far Cry 4 it took 53 hours to beat it, the money is well worth it.

So today, I am grateful for the many games I have played that have given me so much pleasure throughout my years on this Earth. The board games I played with my family, Dungeons and Dragons with my friends, and now the Xbox, which allows me to play Co-op games with my Brother who is over 3,000 miles away.

Have a great Thursday, folks!

Until next time…

Daily Ramblings – Wisdom Wednesday – Acquiring Knowledge

We gain wisdom through the “pain and suffering” associated with mistakes. We screw up. We learn. We avoid screwing up that way again.

Another way to gain wisdom is to learn about other people’s lives. You can learn this from books. You can learn this from talking with other people. We can learn from the mistakes of others, so we can avoid them too.

So what are some ways we can acquire knowledge? Take online courses. Read books, magazines, blogs, articles in the areas you are trying to learn. Find tutorials online to learn from. You can even search YouTube to find a video that may show you what “not” to do.

You build knowledge that you do not have. You find solutions to fill in the gaps of your weaknesses. Books, courses, tutorials, and other people are all great resources for this.

Being entirely honest with oneself is a good exercise. – Sigmund Freud

The way to gain wisdom is to start by self-assessment. It starts with being honest about what you know, and what you don’t know. Once you find out where your knowledge gaps are, you can get to work. Then you can use every resource available to you. Each person is different, however.

You may have weaknesses I do not have, and I may have weaknesses you do not have. This is why it is so important to talk with other people. If you’re trying to improve at work, ask your boss to give you some feedback. If you’re struggling at home with a relationship, ask your partner what you could do to make things better. Go to the people who can help you identify your blind spots.

I hope each of you has a terrific Wednesday!

Until next time…

Here we are again, folks. Another Monday. The start of another week, and another week to excel and succeed. Mondays used to be a drag. I’d have a great weekend, and then, before you know it, it’s time to head to work.

Now that my schedule is more my own, I love Monday. I love starting a new week, and driving through all of my tasks. I guess I’m somewhat addicted to checking things off my daily to-do list.

I hope all of you have a terrific week!

Challenge Week of July 26, 2020 – Today or this week, learn something new. If you don’t have time to dedicate a few weeks to this, I’d suggest a Ted Talk. Ted Talks covers many topics ranging from history, to artificial intelligence, and even cooking. I challenge you to go to Ted Talks and find something to watch. I really love this resource. It’s free, informative, and will present topics that may even challenge your current way of thinking. Have fun!

Daily Ramblings – Spiritual Saturday – Friends

As I write this post, one of my Mother’s friends is visiting. It’s great to see her hang out with other women, because frankly, hanging out with two guys all the time (Dad and I) is boring. Guys don’t talk like women do, at least Dad and I don’t.

Friends are those folks who know us. They know who we are, how we tick. Friendship lasts a lifetime, or they fade when we move, and forget to stay in touch. Today, that seems impossible, but I imagine it happens, particularly when a friendship really wasn’t to begin with.

I don’t have many friends, but the ones I have are lifers. My best friend is my wife, but I also have a significant group of folks in AZ that I stay in touch with. Our society is very mobile today. I moved back home to help my folks. One friend moved to Boston, another to Las Vegas. Still another moved to AZ as I was leaving. Things change, people change, but friendship remains.

Friendship is the best, isn’t it?
